Charging the battery

In the city it is hard to imagine life without a car. To enjoy the benefits that it provides, you need to constantly monitor its proper operation. After all, a car that does not drive is useless and it has to be scrap my cars etobicoke. In this article we will talk about an important unit – the battery. Together we will learn how to service and charge it.

The condition of the battery affects the functioning of the nodes of the vehicle and the serviceability of the car as a whole.

It is not difficult to look after it, unlike

 manipulations which should be entrusted to employees of car-care center.

Maintain the battery as follows:

keep the case clean and dry;
check the amount of electrolyte inside (by the marks);
If it is insufficient, add distilled water (not rainwater!) up to the mark;
make sure the battery is charged.
If the first three points are clear, we’ll go into more detail on the fourth.

There are two ways to charge the battery:

by voltage.
In the first case, you need a charger that pumps a constant current into the battery with a force equal to 0.1 Ah of the battery capacity. For a battery with a capacity of 60 Ah, a current of 6 Ah is applied. The advantage of the┬ámethod is in one hundred percent charging of the battery, disadvantages – long waiting time to complete the process (one day) and the boiling of the electrolyte.

The second option is charging with voltage while the car is running. Charging comes from the generator through the voltage regulator, which gives a constant voltage of 14.2 V. When the generator and battery voltages are equalized, the current decreases a

nd tends to zero. There is a quick charge of the battery without the risk of overcharging. This method will not give a full charge, we advise to resort to the option with the charger once a month.

In the chargers the designers were not able to fully recreate the car way of charging (to generate a current of 50-90 A here can not be), that’s why a combination of two options is used here. In this case, the transition from the first way to the second automatically.

To conclude about safety precautions. Before charging with the charger look whether the wires are connected correctly and unscrew the control and filling plugs on all banks of the battery (in case the unit is serviced). If drops of electrolyte get on your skin, wash the area with soapy water.
